First things to know
for new Cardinal owners

At some point each of us was new to the Cardinal. As time passed and experience grew we learned a great deal, leading to knowledge that we now easily take for granted. Many of those early and simple lessons are still obscure to new owners, leaving our newest members puzzled about many things that the rest of us take for granted.

The CFO system contains thousands of pages of information, submitted by multiple members across decades. But where to start? Which are the very most important things to know? What are the questions that everyone should know for operation, for preflight, for annual inspection?

On these evolving pages we seek to bring forward many of those facts which are obvious to experienced owners but hidden to new owners.

These facts are structured into three categories:

These pages are a collection of the ideas and impressions of the Cardinal pilots who frequent this site. This information is anecdotal, informal and may not be completely accurate. The Cardinal Flyers are not certified mechanics and do not guarantee the accuracy of the contents of these pages. Please research and confirm anything that is referenced on these pages with the experts appropriate to your situation.

As always, the Cessna maintenance, operations and flight manuals, and the advice of a certified mechanic and flight instructor, should be your primary sources of information regarding safe maintenance and operation of your aircraft.
