First CFO Flyin
Winter Haven during Sun & Fun

This event is over now, if you'd like to see how it turned out, please go to this page.

Join us for the first Cardinal Flyers official fly-in!

The fly-in will be held on Saturday April 8th in Winter Haven, Florida airport (GIF) the day before the start of the EAA Sun & Fun flyin. Be sure to Preregister below immediately: we need an accurate count by March 31st!

We've received word that Powerflow will be at Winter Haven with at least one of their modified aircraft! This is the system that will add power to your Cardinal, with increases in cruise, climb and efficiency. See them at Winter Haven!

Also, we are pleased to be able to offer CFO Shirts, for delivery at the Fly-in. Update: It's now too late to order a shirt for Fly-in delivery, but you can order one for delivery by mail. There will be a $5 charge for shipping, handling and postage.

More about the shirts! As you can see to the right, our CFO shirt is a good looking item, with most of the credit going to Michele Gullet for making that a true statement!

The picture to the top right of the page is a closeup of the logo. Rick did a great job of designing it! At this point shirts are only available to those attending the first CFO fly-in and pre-registering to attend. We will work out details of web purchase after this event.

Thanks to Rick and Michele of the House of Embroidery!

Our local hosts for this event will be Palmer & Faye Gehring, who live at the Winter Haven airport and keep their '75 FG there. Palmer has lined up quite the event for us.

Winter Haven is an interesting place: a bustling General Aviation airport with homes, hangars and a wide range of aircraft. Floatplanes glide across the field to land in the adjoining lake, and the early S&F traffic will keep things hopping. Our event will be held in a thickly wooded area between the hangars and the runway, with plenty of space to park our Cardinals.

For hotel, rental car and local info Click Here

The CFO event will start after lunch, when the first Cardinal arrives. Palmer will most likely stand guard with his radio and golf cart, and will lead the parade to our parking area.

Expect to have a cool place to sit and chat. If you're from up north, it will be a warm place to sit and chat.

Once each arrival has had a moment to get oriented and cool down we'll inspect their airplane and offer valuable advice. Then he/she can help pass it on to the next arrival. Come early and get in on the fun! :-)

When you register at the CFO table you will get a CFO hat for each pre-registered attendee. (If you've ordered a shirt in your preregistration below you can pick that up as well.)

We hope to have a few items of extra interest to look at, including the new PowerFlow exhaust system. We expect the Powerflow people to be in attendance as well as Craig and Howard, our CFO members who are helping them certify the system. They've promised to race the RG's... this we gotta see!

At 5:00, we will all enjoy the finest Barbecue I've come across in some time, from Don Ellis Catering. We will have ribs, BBQ chicken, cole slaw, bread, baked beans and iced tea. We might even scare up a dessert.

There will be time for some official talking, welcoming of all the Cardinal flyers and possibly a few awards for Cardinals and pilots of special renown. Perhaps the winner of the race can be properly glorified. :-)

Sound like fun? We need to have an accurate count to order the food, so please, PLEASE pre-register using the form below. The price at the door will be higher, and you won't get a hat, so there is good incentive to pre-register.

Update! We're added the option of letting us know you MIGHT come, although PLEASE don't use this if your plans are pretty firm. We will try to purchase a few extra meals, perhaps half of the maybes, so if you click maybe you may not get fed! You will also pay the higher price and will NOT get a CFO hat or be able to buy a shirt. Also please let us know if your plans firm up, even up to the last minute. We'll have a local number to call for the last day or two.

As mentioned above, we will be making CFO shirts available for the first time at this flyin, with the new CFO logo. If you pre-order shirts with your registration they will be delivered to you at Winter Haven. We will also be taking orders at the fly-in if you want more shirts, although there will be a shipping and handling charge for later delivery.

For more information about CFO shirts, please check out this page.

Winter Haven is ideally located for doing S&F, a short drive via the new parkway. Check out this page for information and details on how to do that, including hotels, car rental etc.

The shuttle van has been cancelled.. many people were initially interested but most ended up with other plans. A few are sharing a car.. if you would like to share a car please make a request on the Digest.
