The CFO Digest is the heart and soul of CFO. Within the nearly daily emails
between and among CFO members flows the information that makes CFO what it
is.
In fact we recently sent out our 1000th digest and threw Paul, the moderator, a virtual party! Check out the comments!
You need to know that the Cardinal Flyers are not certified mechanics, and
we can't guarantee the accuracy of the content of the digest. We provide
the forum, the members provide the wisdom. In all cases Cessna's
documentation and your A&P's guideance must be the final authority on
your aircraft and it's flight worthiness.
The information in the digest takes several forms:
- Technical exchange: Many CFO members have owned their Cardinals for
a very long time, and they have seen or heard about almost any problem you could
imagine. You can get quite a lesson just reading along!
- Quick answers: When a serious problem occurs you may need to learn
about some obscure problem very quickly. The almost-daily nature of the digest
means that answers, when available, are usually quick.
In some cases CFO members will hold off-line conversations by email, getting a
few more facts or suggesting things to check. The final results come back to
the full list, for the edification of all.
- Quick guesses: It's true, you can't believe everything you read in the
digest. But sometimes having a few people to speculate with is a valuable
thing. Almost any question will bring forth at least a guess or two.
- A lively culture: There is no doubt that the digest has become a
little like the corner pub; a place where good friends exchange not only
serious conversation but also a lively banter. CFO members know each other
and have fun together, to the enjoyment of all.
- Moderation: Paul Millner capably moderates the CFO digest. Although
Paul is not an A&P or certified mechanic, he's a pretty sharp cookie and he
keeps us all honest as best he can. A moderator also means, well, moderation
in opinions, feedback and personal comments. We work hard to keep the CFO
digest a safe place to exchange information without risk of being flamed.
If you've ever peeked inside Usenet News or an unmoderated email list, you
will find the CFO digest to be a breath of fresh air.
- History: The CFO digest is not like yesterdays newpaper, lining the
bottom of the birdcage. For one thing we save the paper! But more importantly,
the digests are saves in the CFO archives and are kept available for when you
have the problem yourself. A search engine makes finding the article you need
fast and easy, and the context display helps you find the exact article from
the search result list.
The digest archive is kept behind the membership firewall so as to keep
the email addresses off the web and avoid spammer email harvesting.
