CFO Colors and Paint

Comes a time in every airplane's life when the paint just has to be redone. Between the cosmetics, the risk of corrosion as the aluminum contacts the air and the feeling that all that loose paint must be adding drag, your time will come.

Or, you may be wishing that you to could recognize the year of a Cardinal just by looking at the scheme. Be warned, however, that many people have applied a paint scheme that doesn't match the year, or sometimes the type. An RG scheme on a FG looks really odd... and what do you put on the wheel pants?

This section of the site contains information on the various paint schemes and colors which have been used through the years on Cardinals. Currently only factory schemes are covered, but with luck there will be additions to this area in the future.

If you are researching options for a repaint, remember to consider CFO sponsor Scheme Designers. They provided all these drawings and are a font of expertise not only on what can be done, but how to do it.

These pages are a collection of the ideas and impressions of the Cardinal pilots who frequent this site. This information is anecdotal, informal and may not be completely accurate. The Cardinal Flyers are not certified mechanics and do not guarantee the accuracy of the contents of these pages. Please research and confirm anything that is referenced on these pages with the experts appropriate to your situation.

As always, the Cessna maintenance, operations and flight manuals, and the advice of a certified mechanic and flight instructor, should be your primary sources of information regarding safe maintenance and operation of your aircraft.
