   Winter Haven 2013

Winter Haven National Flyin

It was another nice year at Winter Haven, with a complete shortage of tornadoes or heavy rainstorms. As I recall the storms enroute weren't too bad and most folks were able to arrive without difficulty. It was great to see the Cardinal Flyers get out in the spring again.

I'll let the pictures tell the story with a few notes. Thanks to Debbie, Peter Carter, Kim Peck and Jacque LaValle who all shared a number of very nice photos which they took during the event. It was great to have a large number of photos to choose from.

The event started on Saturday evening with the social gathering at Faye and Palmer's house. A good crowd arrived and enjoyed the outstanding appetizers from Chef Todd which we have become accustomed to over the years.

As usually the Cardinals arrived the day before the event, resplendent in their various colors.

And also as usual, Palmer was there in his Follow Me golf cart to sort the Cardinals from the chaff and get us the proper parking spot.
Reception at Faye and Palmer's
Folks gather on the back patio to discuss Cardinals and enjoy the evening warmth.
Paul is looking relaxed!
Many aviation issues are being resolved by this group.
The kitchen is always the busiest place.

Chef Todd is always a blur at these events, but leaves great food in his wake.

Airport Walkaround and Lunch
A good crowd gathers to see the latest from Powerflow.
Among many other things, we got to see the IO-390 in a Cardinal.
Lunch in the Grove
As usual, a good crowd for lunch.
We were honored to be visited by the Mayor of Winter Haven, who shared a few door prizes with the help of Debbie, the Winter Haven Airport Manager.
Day trip: Fantasy of Flight
A number of Cardinal Flyers took the opportunity to fly into the Fantasy of Flight airport.
Lunch was at the officer's club in the museum.
Tours of the various shops was a highlight of the deep tour.
We got the inside story of many of the aircraft on display.
Awards Banquet
New location this year, everyone seemed to enjoy the Garden Ballroom.
And there was plenty of room for all.
Some guy stood up and kept talking... oh, that's me! With Debbie keeping track of things in the background.

Awards and Prizes
Jon Baxter received the Flew Furthest award this year.
Don Imhoff won the Most Cardinal Time award with 2800 hours. This is a 'win once' award, a few past winners welcomed Don to their ranks.
The Fledgling award, for having purchased their Cardinal most recently, was shared by the Carters and the Brunski's, who are all from Canada and happened to purchase their two aircraft at the same time.
Our newest pilot award went to Zach Berkes
Christophe Masiero picked up the Wet Wings award for the most recent Instrument rating.
Jim Henderson received the Broader Wings award for his recent tailwheel endorsement.
A new award, for the most improved aircraft, was won by Jimmy and Sandy Honeycutt. Fitting since their Cardinal initial came to them as a salvage aircraft.
We finally got a shot of Debbie keeping things running behind the scenes.
The People's Choice Best Cardinal of Show award went to Rogers Faden.
Here we see Rogers with his airplane.
Sun 'n Fun Followup
Keith and Paul discuss Cardinals with a room full of Cardinal Flyers and interested attendees at their SnF Forum.
CFO Members stop by the type club tent to rest their feet and visit with other Cardinal owners, in the process giving Debbie a break and a chance to see some of the show.
